Below is a list, in alphabetical order, of the main NHS clinics and services available at Judges Close Practice.
In addition to the basic courses of vaccination, adults require the following boosters:
- Tetanus: For adults who have received 5 doses, further doses are not recommended unless they are at special risk.
- Tetanus and Polio: Reinforcing doses for adults are not required unless they are at special risk such as travellers to endemic areas and certain health care workers.
Antenatal Clinics are run by the Community Midwife who will monitor your health through pregnancy and the development of your unborn baby. Appointments for the Clinic should be made through reception.
Anti-Coagulation Clinic (INR CLINIC)
Patients on Warfarin therapy are monitored regularly and dosage changed accordingly using a finger-prick method of blood sampling and the result entered into a computer software decision support database. The patient has the convenience of a local service and a rapid assessment of INR and future dosage regime all within a 10-minute appointment. Patients must bring their yellow record book and let the clinic nurse know.
Asthma & chronic obstructive pulmonary disease clinic
Asthma checks and checks for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease checks are carried out by our practice nurses, who have undergone specialist training and can provide monitoring of your condition, advice on inhaler technique and new medications.
Breast Cancer Screening (Mammography)
This is provided by the West Sussex Breast Screening Service Unit, which visits East Grinstead every three years to screen ladies between the ages of 50 and 70. You will be sent in invitation by post. Should you miss this opportunity, you can telephone 01903 239757 to make an appointment.
Blood Tests (Phlebotomy)
These are carried out at the Surgery in the mornings, by appointment only. If you are required to have a FASTING blood test, do not have anything to eat or drink, except water, for 12 hours prior to your appointment. PLEASE INFORM THE PERSON MAKING YOUR APPOINTMENT THAT IT IS FOR A FASTING BLOOD TEST.
Your results will normally be sent via electronic link to your Doctor. Unless your Doctor has given you other instructions please telephone the Practice during the afternoon 2 days later for the results.
Are you a carer? If you are providing help or support to a friend, neighbour, relative or partner who could not stay at home due to their sickness, age or disability, then you are a carer. The practice offers advice and support to carers - please ask a receptionist.
If you, or the person you care for is attending on of our clinics, then the nurse or doctor will ask you if you are a carer. If you are not attending one of our clinics, then please let a receptionist know and we will do our best to ensure you receive any help you need.

Cervical Screening (Smear Tests)
A cervical screening test is generally recommended every three years for women aged 25-49 and every five years for women aged 50-64. These tests are offered at the Surgery and a reminder letter is sent out to the patient by the records office, on behalf of the Doctors.
A card will be sent to parents informing them when immunisations are due. This card will offer an appointment at one of our Thursday morning clinics.
However, if you have recently moved or feel your child is overdue for immunisation, please contact the Surgery. We feel that it is very important to ensure that all children are immunised against these potentially serious illnesses.
Diabetes, Respiratory And Heart Disease Clinics
We have a number of specific clinics, which are run by a Nurse in liaison with a Lead Doctor. In most of these disease areas an annual review is recommended, with possible interim blood tests etc. Patients will receive an invitation to attend the Surgery as appropriate but should feel free to contact the Nurse or Doctor as necessary
A contraceptive service is provided by the surgery including advice on barrier methods (condom or diaphragm), the oral contraceptive pill, the contraceptive injection and the contraceptive implant and natural methods. We currently are unable to offer intrauterine contraceptive devices but this service is provided by the Crawley Sexual Health Clinic who can be contacted on their central booking line 01903 285199
Emergency post-coital contraception is also available
Health Promotion Clinics
We offer appointments with our Nurses for continued good health management. They can advise on such topics as:
- Smoking Cessation
- “Well Person”
- Diet and Healthy Eating
- Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
- Teenage Health
- Family Planning/Sexual Health
Influenza And Pneumococcal Vaccinations
Flu and pneumococcal vaccines are available from October every year. They are offered free of charge to all patients over the age of 65, and are especially recommended for diabetics, asthmatics those with chronic chest complaints or immuno-suppressed patients.
These vaccines are also available to younger patients with chronic diseases. Flu vaccinations are offered annually.
The pneumococcal vaccine is a one-off injection which protects against the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae which can lead to a number of serious illnesses, including pneumonia, septicaemia (a kind of blood poisoning) and meningitis.
Some minor surgical procedures are carried out in the practice and a cryotherapy clinic for freezing skin lesions that do not need surgical removal, is available. Your doctor will refer you to these clinics if it is appropriate.
Medical examinations for special reasons eg employment, fitness to drive or insurance are not undertaken during routine surgery times. A special appointment may be made with the doctor and the receptionist will let you know the fee involved.
